In the Stars October 6-13, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun continues to shine in the sign of Libra tropically, bringing focus on relationships, harmony, and beauty.

Two powerful planets change direction this week, amplifying their symbolism. Jupiter stations retrograde just after midnight early Wednesday morning, October 9, at 21:20 Gemini, and will move backward in the zodiac until February 4, 2025. Jupiter, a great benefic planet, symbolizes generosity, increase, religion, teaching and learning. On Friday, October 11, Pluto turns direct. It will then complete its journey through Capricorn and move into Aquarius on November 19. Pluto symbolizes power, destruction, death, rebirth, and transformation. Pluto will not be in Capricorn again for around 230 years.

Jupiter joins Uranus, Saturn, Chiron, Neptune in the retrograde brigade, while Pluto leaves it. The many retrograde planets draw us inward for self-reflection and completing projects.

Saturday, October 5, is an active day, buoyed by the practical strength and intention of the Moon’s trines to Saturn and Mars. The Moon’s seductive conjunction with Venus adds passion and determination.  Allow your strong feelings to drive you toward accomplishment.

You will definitely want to take some space of your own on Sunday morning, October 6, as the Scorpio Moon aspects Uranus. Later, the Moon aspects Neptune and then Pluto, making it an active, intense day. At 4:33 p.m. PDT the Moon bounces into Sagittarius, ushering in an enthusiastic evening.

Monday, October 7, is a light-hearted, high-spirited day, with no significant alignments, that is, until later in the day when the Moon squares Saturn, curbing enthusiasm. We are then reminded of our responsibilities and limitations.

Tuesday, October 8, is blessed with several benefic aspects, in addition to the buoyancy of the Moon in Sagittarius. Venus and Mars trine each other, facilitating an easy blending of masculine and feminine energies. Mercury and Jupiter trine, creating an ease in communication. These are good aspects for partners to discuss matters of concern, or simply to share ideas. The Moon makes benefic aspects to Chiron and Mercury, aiding in problem solving. The Moon’s opposition to Jupiter may lead to oversharing and to overdoing, so be careful to know when enough is enough.

Jupiter stations retrograde just after midnight early Wednesday morning, October 9, at 21:20 Gemini. Jupiter will be in retrograde in Gemini for the next five months. During Jupiter's retrograde spin the next five months could be a good time to focus on something you want to learn such as a language, or to focus on a writing project. The Moon moves into Capricorn for the next two days, providing steady energy for hard work and accomplishment.

One of Thursday’s themes is relational healing due to Venus in Scorpio being at the apex of a yod, or in quincunx relationship with Chiron and stationary Jupiter. Another theme is tension around attaining goals. The Capricorn Moon opposes Mars and squares the Sun and Chiron. A Moon-Venus sextile in the evening will ease tensions. All in all, it is a day activated by planetary aspects, and much can still be accomplished with the Moon in Capricorn.

Early Friday, October 11, the Capricorn Moon makes benefic aspects to transpersonal outer planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, expanding our world view. Friday is a day for independent thinking and friendship. {The day's alignments are perfect for my trip to my home town of Chillicothe, Missouri, to meet up with old friends} The Moon moves into Aquarius tropically at 9:30 a.m. PDT. Mercury makes a quincunx (150-degree aspect) to Uranus, sparking new ideas generated by an open mind. The most significant event of the day is Pluto’s station to turn direct. When planets station, they are still, and thus, their symbolism is stronger than when in motion. Thus, the day may be explosive, tumultuous, and life-changing. There may be strong showings of power for good or ill.

Our minds may be scattered on Saturday, October 12, due to a Mercury-Neptune aspect. However, the Aquarius Moon makes benefic aspects to the Sun, Chiron, and Jupiter, helping us gain a broader perspective, and more clarity. This is another good day to engage with others and expand our minds.

Sunday, October 13, is a thunderous day, full of difficult, testy aspects. A major alignment is a Mercury-Pluto square which may correspond with noteworthy breaking news.  A Moon-Uranus square breaks apart routine and may shake us up. A Cardinal T-square between the Sun in Libra, Chiron in Aries, and Mars in Cancer is hot and reactionary. Tension will likely increase with the conflict in the Middle East, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the coming political elections in the United States, and perhaps other tense situations, not to mention our personal lives. The Moon moves into Pisces at 12:55 p.m. PDT, making a welcome benefic aspect to Mercury, helping us listen with an open heart. A Sun-Jupiter trine gives optimism and vision of higher ground.

The square of the Sun and Mars perfects on Monday, October 14, holding the tension of yesterday’s tense planetary alignments. A Moon-Saturn conjunction will tether us to our responsibilities and keep us grounded as we navigate the disruptions and surprises that may result from the Venus-Uranus opposition.

Moon Void of Course:

This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
