In the Stars July 28-August 4, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun now shines in Leo, the sign symbolizing enthusiasm, entertainment, children, and romance. The fixed fire sign Leo encourages creative expression. Consider how you will allow yourself to play, and how you will express yourself more creatively.

Wrap up your travel arrangements and communication in the next week before Mercury turns retrograde on Sunday, August 4. During its retrograde motion through August 28, the time is especially good for reviewing, re-thinking, re-organizing, and re-working ideas and projects. Mercury will join Saturn, Chiron, Neptune, and Pluto in retrograde motion.

A New Moon at 12:34 degrees of Leo forms on Sunday morning, August 4, ushering in an energetic, dramatic new Lunar month. Benefic sextiles from the New Moon to Jupiter and Mars in Gemini will bring opportunities. Venus ingresses into Virgo on August 4 also, focusing our energies for the next three weeks on practical matters, and tasks to be completed.

Saturday and Sunday are fortified with the solid, practical energy of the Taurus Moon. Saturday morning, July 27, the Moon squares Pluto, pushing us toward change. Once we’ve dealt with the discomfort of being out of our comfort zone, we can attend to the practical matters of the day. The Taurus Moon loves comfort and luxury. After a good breakfast, we will want to putter at home and in the garden, pulling the weeds, cleaning, and make everything more beautiful.

Sunday continues in practical home-oriented mode, supported by a Moon-Saturn sextile, and a Moon-Ceres trine. After getting your house in order, make a delicious meal, and share it with family or friends.

The work week begins Monday with zest for change and a new approach. After the Moon moves into Gemini at 2:28 p.m. PDT we open to clever thoughts and ideas through conversation. The Gemini Moon’s trine to Pluto empowers us to explore new opportunities.

Conversations are energetic and expansive on Tuesday, July 30, in the light of a Moon-Mars square and a Mars-Sun sextile, and later in the day, a Moon-Jupiter conjunction. Ideas roll! A benefic Venus-Chiron trine enables us to express our whole selves and attend our wounded places. A Moon-Saturn square in the evening reins us in, and reminds us of our boundaries and limitations.

On Wednesday, July 31, the Gemini Moon makes benefic sextiles to Venus and Chiron, generating opportunities for improving relationships and healing personal wounds. The Moon squares Neptune, making interactions cloudy and diffuse, ushering in the Moon’s ingress into Cancer.

Thursday and Friday, August 1 and 2, Venus and Uranus square each other, bringing up questions in values, and inviting change in relationships. Focus will be on matters at home, and concerning family. Friday’s Moon-Saturn trine helps to stabilize the day, enabling us to deal with any fallout from the Venus-Uranus square.

The rest of the weekend, Saturday and Sunday August 3-4, is set for fun with the backdrop of the Leo Moon that emerges at 4:10 a.m. PDT Saturday morning. Early Saturday morning the Moon opposes Pluto, unleashing deep, passionate feelings which can be channeled into creative projects and play. Saturday evening’s Moon-Mars benefic sextile in Gemini invites conversation over matters that may have been churned up earlier in the day. The Moon is its darkest on Saturday, preparing for a new cycle.

The New Moon at 12:34 degrees of Leo forms on Sunday morning, ushering in an energetic, dramatic new Lunar month. Benefic sextiles from the New Moon to Jupiter and Mars in Gemini will generate opportunities in the coming week. Sextile aspects generate opportunities; we have to take action to benefit from them. Venus ingresses into Virgo, where it will be grounded in practicality for the next few weeks. Mercury turns retrograde at 9:55 p.m. PDT, ushering in a three-week cycle ahead, allowing for reflection and re-evaluation.

Monday morning starts with a bang, and some surprises or distractions may take us off course, as the Moon squares Uranus. This aspect ushers in a void Moon period from 8:15 a.m.-2:16 p.m. PDT. During this void time, it is best not to hold meetings or do things requiring consequential decisions (especially in light of Mercury having just gone retrograde). At 2:16 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into Virgo, signaling the time of the month to get our lives in order. The rest of Monday should be productive. The Moon conjuncts Venus and Mercury, giving focus and practicality.

Moon Void of Course:

This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
