In the Stars January 8-15, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

Mars turns direct in motion this week on Thursday, January 12th, after being in retrograde motion since October 30th. Projects will gain momentum and move forward. Mars continues Out of Bounds (OOB) until May 4th symbolizing a more wild, unique, and unbounded expression of assertive, courageous energy.

The Sun shines in Capricorn. Winter is a time to hibernate, rest, and incubate. This barren, dormant time is needed in nature to enable a strong budding and growing season in the spring and summer.

Mercury continues retrograde until January 18, offering time to re-group, re-think, reconsider, and redo. It is a good time to revise plans and writing projects. At the same time, communication is more easily confused, so be patient with errors and miscommunications. Uranus turns direct on January 22, and then all planets will be in direct motion until April 21.

A Moon-Mars sextile invites us to get moving on Sunday morning. Mercury makes a benefic trine to Uranus, filling us with brilliant ideas. Given that Mercury is retrograde, we may figure out a different way of doing something, or solve a problem through re-thinking or reconsidering.

Monday is influenced by an affectionate Mars-Venus trine. However, Saturn’s opposition to the Moon may dampen spirits. However, the Leo Moon shines through enthusiastically and playfully.

It’s the time of the month to clean up and get organized on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The Moon is in efficient, hard-working Virgo. Several challenging square aspects on Tuesday can make us feel frustrated and unappreciated. Just keep doing the work, and let go of a drive for perfection.

The dwarf planet Eris that symbolizes strong, fiery energy is stationary on Wednesday, perhaps bringing disruption to the day. A Moon-Uranus trine gives a rebellious desire for independence. Although we should be putting greater order into our lives, there may be diversions and chaos.

We may want to stay in dreamland and sleep a little longer on Thursday as the Moon opposes Neptune in the early morning. On the other hand, this is a red day, as Mars is stationary turning direct in motion. We are determined to lean in and meet our goals in light of the Moon’s trine to Pluto. The Moon ingresses into Libra at 6:56 p.m. PST, ushering in a lovely evening to relax with your beloved.

Friday the 13th invites us to revisit plans for the future as retrograde Mercury trines the North Node. The Capricorn Sun sextiles Neptune, giving compassion and vision, Conversation is eased and constrained due to aspects to Mars and Mercury. The Sun’s square to Eris the next two days can feel like an uphill challenge.

Saturday’s Libra Moon draws our focus to relationships, fairness, equanimity, and beauty. In contrast, Libra’s ruling planet Venus is square to Uranus, throwing some curve balls and taking us in new directions. Be open to new ways of relating.

The Moon enters the deep waters of Scorpio on Sunday, inviting contemplation and deep thought and feelings. Otherwise the planetary activity is light. Enjoy the quiet and take time for introspection.

The work week begins Monday with a Moon-Uranus opposition which may take us in unexpected directions. A Moon-Neptune trine offers forgiveness and compassion. A Moon-Saturn square demands accountability and may leave us feeling like we can never do quite enough.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
