In the Stars January 19-26, 2025 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week
Big events in the news this past week were the launches Thursday, January 16, of Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket and SpaceX’s Starship. Retrograde Mars exactly opposed the Sun at 26 degrees Cancer and Capricorn respectively. The Sun was conjunct Pluto a few degrees away at 1 degree of Aquarius. Such an event is a great example of the explosive power of a Mars-Sun/Pluto opposition, for tremendous transformation or destruction. The success and failure of these launches demonstrate both. The New Glenn (January 16, 2:03 a.m. EST, Cape Canaveral, Florida) horoscope had Mars placed highest in the horoscope in the 9th house near the Midheaven. From a Vedic perspective Mars was in the 10th house where it received directional strength (dig bala). The SpaceX Starship (January 16, 16:38 MST, Boca Chica, Texas) had the Sun/Pluto conjunction near the 8th house (8th house in the Vedic/sidereal system). The 8th house represents death and destruction; this launch failed, with the rocket shattering into pieces after the explosive launch. It is fascinating to note the vastly different results from the timing of the two horoscopes on the same day!
Other major events symbolic of the Mars-opposite Sun/Pluto are the Los Angeles area fires; and the cease-fire of Israel-Palestine war due to take place Sunday, January 19; and the Trump inauguration on Monday, January 20.
The Sun moves from Capricorn to Aquarius tropically on Sunday, January 19. The solar month of Aquarius ahead symbolizes innovation, scientific exploration, concern for humanity, and building community. According to the news, there may be big changes in immigration policy after Donald Trump takes office.
Mercury is in Capricorn, giving practical, discerning thinking to the earthy mix through its stay in the industrious sign until January 29.
Venus remains closely conjunct Saturn exact through the first part of the week ahead, highlighting responsibility and commitment in matters of love and money. This aspect invites us to attend to our finances. Make an appointment with your tax accountant, or with yourself to tend your money matters.
The New Moon in Aquarius January 29 marks the Chinese New Year of the Wood Snake. Snake characteristics are introspection, seriousness, and wisdom. The snake year will be calmer and quieter than the bold, exciting dragon year we have just had.
Retrograde Uranus and Jupiter are slowing down in preparation for turning direct January 30 and February 3 respectively.

Moon Void of Course:
This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
