In the Stars August 4-11, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun continues to shine in Leo, the sign symbolizing play, entertainment, children, and romance. The fixed fire sign Leo encourages play and creative expression.

Mercury turns retrograde on Sunday, August 4. Wrap up any unfinished travel arrangements or communication before Sunday. During its retrograde motion through August 28, the time is especially good for reviewing, re-thinking, re-organizing, and re-working ideas and projects. Mercury will join Saturn, Chiron, Neptune, and Pluto in retrograde motion.

A New Moon at 12:34 degrees of Leo forms on Sunday morning, August 4., ushering in an energetic, dramatic new Lunar month. Benefic sextiles from the New Moon to Jupiter and Mars in Gemini will bring opportunities. Venus ingresses into Virgo on August 4 also, focusing our energies for the next three weeks on practical matters and tasks to be completed.

The rest of the weekend, Saturday and Sunday August 3-4, is set for fun against the backdrop of the Leo Moon that emerges at 4:10 a.m. PDT Saturday morning. Early Saturday morning the Moon opposes Pluto, unleashing deep, passionate feelings which can be channeled into creative projects and play. Saturday evening’s Moon-Mars benefic sextile in Gemini invites conversation over matters that may have been churned up earlier in the day. The Moon is its darkest on Saturday, preparing for a new cycle.

The New Moon at 12:34 degrees of Leo forms on Sunday morning, August 4, ushering in an energetic, dramatic new Lunar month. Benefic sextiles from the New Moon to Jupiter and Mars in Gemini will generate opportunities in the coming week. We have to take action to benefit from the opportunities of sextiles. Venus ingresses into Virgo, where it will be grounded in practicality for the next few weeks. Mercury turns retrograde at 9:55 p.m. PDT, ushering in a three-week cycle ahead for reflection and re-evaluation.

Monday morning, August 5, starts with a bang, and maybe some surprises or distractions taking us off course, as the Moon squares Uranus. This aspect ushers in a void Moon period from 8:15 a.m.-2:16 p.m. PDT. During this void time, it is best not to hold meetings or do things requiring consequential decisions (especially in light of Mercury having just gone retrograde). At 2:16 PDT the Moon moves into Virgo, signaling the time of the month to get our lives in order. The rest of Monday should be productive. The Moon conjuncts Venus and Mercury, giving focus and practicality.

You will want to continue with your cleaning and organizing task-oriented intentions on Tuesday, August 6, with the Moon in Virgo. However, the Moon’s squares to Mars and Jupiter invite overly optimistic goals and perhaps some frustration in not getting as much accomplished as you would like. Stay steady and make it an industrious day.

The Sun sextiles Jupiter on Wednesday, August 7, making it a buoyant, exuberant day. An early morning Moon-Saturn opposition keeps us focused on our goals and duties. Late in the day we may experience a nice surprise, or be deterred from our routine as the Sun trines Uranus.

The Moon shines in Libra on Thursday, August 8, setting the stage for a social day. In the early morning the Moon trines Pluto, triggering a power surge early in the day. Otherwise, the day is light, inviting a balanced, graceful glide through life, walking in beauty.

The Libra Moon trines Mars and Jupiter in Gemini on Friday, August 9, setting up Venus’ day for relating. Saturn’s quincunx to the Leo Sun may be a bit perplexing, as we may feel underappreciated. Even so, we can engage in satisfying social interactions. Enjoy a fine dinner with friends or loved ones.

Saturday, August 10, is chill with the harmonious Libra Moon, until 3:34 p.m. PDT when the Moon moves into the deep emotional waters of Scorpio. The ingress is followed shortly by a testy Moon-Pluto square. The sharp edges will soften somewhat with the Moon-Mercury sextile in the evening. With the Moon is in Scorpio, we may feel like drawing inward and taking some space for ourselves.

Venus trines Ceres Sunday, August 11, supporting connection with family and loved ones. Show your appreciation. The Scorpio Moon stirs deep, passionate feelings.

Monday’s Moon-Saturn trine supports a practical approach to the emotional issues of the day. As the day wears on it becomes increasingly more stressful and volatile. Stay open, flexible, and grounded.

Moon Void of Course:

This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
