In the Stars August 18-25, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun moves through its last few days in Leo and then ingresses into Virgo on Thursday, August 22.  We move from summer fun back to school and work and putting our lives in order.

Mercury continues retrograde through August 28. This time is especially good for reviewing, re-thinking, re-organizing, and re-working ideas and projects. Mercury, Saturn, Chiron, Neptune, and Pluto are all in retrograde motion, turning us inward to ponder next steps.

A T-square (between Venus, Mars/Jupiter, and Saturn) on Sunday through Tuesday gives courage and drive to get things accomplished; however, this could also feel like progress is thwarted. Be patient with blockages and navigate through them.

Saturday, August 17, is a dynamic day. The Capricorn Moon provides grounding and industriousness. The Moon’s square to Eris, and the Sun’s trine to Eris create dynamic tension. The Moon’s trine to Uranus may bring surprises. At 2:44 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into Aquarius and conjuncts Pluto, also bearing themes of deep change. Mingle with friends in the evening to shake off the events of the day.

A Mercury-Uranus square is a featured aspect Sunday, August 18, challenging us to think out of the box. The Sun conjuncts retrograde Mercury, spotlighting creative ideas and re-thinking projects and plans. The Aquarius Moon trines Mars and Jupiter, giving us confidence, vision, and determination. Venus opposes Saturn and both square the Mars/Jupiter conjunction. While we could see this as desires and efforts thwarted, the potential in this T-square is to use it to make a calculated risk, or to drive desires and responsibilities. Use this alignment to intentionally move your life far forward.

The week starts off with a power surge Monday, August 19, first with the Leo Sun square to Uranus, bringing some curve balls and changes. The day sports a rebellious, independent Full Moon, with Uranus exactly square to the Full Moon. The Moon moves into Pisces at 3:51 p.m. PDT after a void Moon period since 11:25 a.m. The evening is full of inspiration and imagination.

Although the Moon is in peaceful Pisces Tuesday, August 20, and the early part of the day may feel that way, the evening fills with tension and activity from several planetary aspects: Moon conjunct Saturn, square Jupiter and Mars, and Moon opposing Venus. The evening may be complicated. Discord may be triggered. We may feel pulled in different directions. Aim to stay centered, and call on your intuition and vision.

Wednesday, August 21, may be cloudy and confusing due to both the Sun’s and Moon’s aspects to Neptune. This would be a good day to do some aimless wandering or daydreaming. At 4:01 p.m. PDT the Moon leaps into Aries, and we are ready for a fresh start. This last day of the Sun in Leo, I celebrate my daughter Sophia’s birthday with a trip to Seattle with her.

The Sun moves into Virgo tropically on Thursday, August 22. Summer vacation is over and it’s back-to-school time. The mutable earth sign Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet symbolizing learning, attending to details, and creating order. Virgo strives for self-improvement. A Sun-Pluto quincunx aspect may churn up some challenges, as well as a desire to press on. A Venus-Mars square may ignite relationship issues, but it can also give passion and creativity. The evening’s Moon-Jupiter sextile lifts our spirits before bedtime.

Friday, August 23, is an energetic day with the Moon in Aries. The Moon’s trine to Chiron fosters wise conversations. At 5:00 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into Taurus where it is exalted, or highest functioning. Then the Moon squares Pluto, luring us into power struggles, or experiences challenging our wants and needs. A Mercury-Mars sextile in the evening fosters easy, clear communication. Enjoy a delicious dinner in a beautiful place, as the Taurus Moon loves to please the senses.

Saturday and Sunday, August 24-25, host a Taurus Moon, luring us toward sensual pleasures for these weekend days. Taurus is the practical, grounded fixed earth sign. Taurus fosters gardening, cooking, and beautifying. Brighten your home with fresh flowers, dance through your weekend chores, and set a lovely table for a scrumptious dinner. Mars sextiles Chiron, encouraging healing interactions. Saturday holds a benefic Moon-Saturn sextile that will aid the productivity of the day.

The Moon’s monthly rendezvous with Uranus occurs on Sunday which can change our routine and liberate us from entanglements. The day may go other than planned and deliver a few surprises. At 8:03 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into Gemini.

The Gemini Moon invites conversation and connection on Monday, August 26. Make phone calls and answer emails that are waiting to be addressed. Reach out to siblings. Venus and Uranus are trine the next few days, perfecting on Tuesday. This alignment adds excitement and gives new life to relationships.

Moon Void of Course:

This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
