In the Stars August 11-18, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun continues to shine in Leo, the sign symbolizing play, entertainment, children, and romance. The fixed fire sign Leo encourages creative expression and playing with children.

Mercury is now retrograde through August 28. This time is especially good for reviewing, re-thinking, re-organizing, and re-working ideas and projects. Mercury, Saturn, Chiron, Neptune, and Pluto are all in retrograde motion.

This week is colored by a Mars-Jupiter conjunction in Gemini that is square to Saturn in Pisces. This could manifest as tests and challenges, or limitations and roadblocks. It could also be harnessed to accomplish big goals. The Mars-Jupiter conjunction generates ideas, conversation, and learning. Saturn applies discipline and focus. How will you use this tense energy for good, and accomplish a big goal in your life?

Saturday, August 10, is chill with the harmonious Libra Moon, until 3:34 p.m. PDT when the Moon moves into the deep emotional waters of Scorpio. The ingress is followed shortly by a testy Moon-Pluto square. The sharp edges will soften somewhat with the Moon-Mercury sextile in the evening. When the Moon is in Scorpio, we may feel like drawing inward and taking some space for ourselves.

Venus trines Ceres Sunday, August 11, supporting connection with family. Show your appreciation to loved ones. The Scorpio Moon stirs deep, passionate feelings.

Monday’s Moon-Saturn trine supports a practical approach to emotional issues. As the day wears on, it becomes increasingly more stressful and volatile. Stay open, flexible, and grounded.

Tuesday, August 12, is an energetic, optimistic day with the Moon in sunny Sagittarius. However, there are some testy aspects (Moon square Mercury and Venus) that may trigger disagreements. Take care not to be too blunt or direct, and allow the buoyancy of this mutable Moon sign to help you move through any rough spots.

The Sag Moon shines again on another adventurous day Wednesday, August 13. The drive for exploration is encouraged by the Moon’s opposition to Mars and Jupiter, yet there is restraint due to Saturn squaring the Moon, Mars, and Jupiter, forming a T-square. Positive uses of this alignment would be to engage with discipline in some expanded learning, or setting an ambitious goal and harnessing the grit to accomplish it. Put this demanding energy to good use rather than allowing yourself to feel thwarted by it. Mercury retrograde moves back into the sign of Leo, enabling us to re-examine some of our creative ideas.

Employ the last gasp of the Sag Moon to take a morning hike or bike ride Thursday morning. At 10:50 a.m. the Moon ingresses into Capricorn. Saturn exactly squares the Mars-Jupiter conjunction in Gemini. The Capricorn Moon provides grounding, practicality, and a drive to reach goals. The Saturn/Mars-Jupiter square gives focus and determination. Much could be accomplished if you use the energy to work on a challenge. Press on past obstacles that may be in your path.

Friday, August 16, is a wonderful work day, supported by the Capricorn Moon with benefic aspects to Venus and Saturn. You will be able to get a lot accomplished, and enjoy the work. Make the most of it.

Saturday, August 17, is a dynamic day. The Capricorn Moon provides grounding and industriousness. The Moon’s square to Eris, and the Sun’s trine to Eris give dynamism and tension. The Moon’s trine to Uranus may bring surprises and diversions. At 2:44 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into Aquarius and conjuncts Pluto, bearing themes of deep change. Mingle with friends in the evening to shake off the events of the day.

A Mercury-Uranus square is a featured aspect Sunday, August 18, challenging us to think outside of the box. The Sun conjuncts retrograde Mercury, spotlighting creative ideas and re-thinking projects and plans. The Aquarius Moon trines Mars and Jupiter, giving us confidence and courage. Venus opposes Saturn and both square the Mars/Jupiter conjunction. While we could see this as values and efforts thwarted, the potential in this T-square is to use it to take a calculated risk, or to give courage and drive to accomplish something different. Use this alignment to intentionally move your life far forward.

The week starts off with a power surge Monday, August 19, first with the Leo Sun square to Uranus, bringing some curve balls and changes. The day sports a rebellious, independent Full Moon, with Uranus exactly square to the Sun and Moon. The Moon moves into Pisces at 3:51 p.m. PDT after a void Moon period since 11:25 a.m. The evening is full of inspiration and imagination.

Moon Void of Course:

This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
