In the Stars April 11-18, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon
Sunday’s potent New Moon in Aries begins a bold, energetic week. Seven planets are in action-oriented fire sign Aries: Chiron, Mercury, Ceres, Moon, Sun, Eris, and Venus. Asteroid Pallas Athena squares the Nodes, highlighting independence and strategy. Set intentions for the new things you want to begin in your life, as Aries symbolizes new beginnings.
This week from Sunday through Saturday there are seven planets that aspect each other from 22-28 degrees in 6 different signs: Pluto, Jupiter, Neptune, Sun, Eris, Mars, and asteroid Juno. If you
have personal planets in the range of 22-28 degrees, your horoscope (and thus, your life) will be influenced and energized. There’s a strong call for action, especially with the Sun, Eris, and Pluto in cardinal signs. If you are born between the 12th and the 19th of any month, then it is likely that you are strongly influenced by the strong grouping of planets in these degrees.
From a Vedic astrological point of view, the Sun and Mercury move over the gandanta point this week, a very sensitive, volatile, unsettled point when a planet changes from water to fire sidereally. The Sun moves through this point April 12th-13th and Mercury April 15th-16th. This is a week full of sensitive energy, and a lot going on.

Sunday is an extremely potent day. Venus and Pluto square off, bringing relationship and/or money issues to the surface. The New Moon amplifies this aspect, as Venus conjuncts Eris, Sun and Moon in Aries. With the New Moon involved, Sunday may be an emotionally volatile day, though thankfully it is tempered by the soft, nurturing energies of Venus and Ceres. There are seven planetary bodies in Aries. Jupiter and Mars are trine, and each of them make a close sextile to the New Moon. The bundle of planetary alignments on this day are extremely potent. Wherever the New Moon falls in your horoscope (22:25 degrees Aries) you will want to set strong intentions and get going on the manifestation.
Monday’s early morning hours hold the Moon’s exact alignment with the Venus-Pluto square. We may want to take some time and space to process the intensity of what was churned up with yesterday’s planetary alignments, as well as with Monday’s volatile early morning alignments. The Moon is void of course from 5:06 a.m. until 10:43 a.m. PDT, and then the Moon moves into its sign of exaltation, Taurus, which will be a salve for the fiery energy of the past few days. Take the afternoon and evening to pamper yourself and make yourself comfortable.
On Tuesday morning the Moon conjoins Uranus, breaking routine. Then the Moon squares Saturn, pushing us to tend to responsibilities. Mars is trine Jupiter the next few days. Mars/Jupiter in air signs expands knowledge, and energizes our travel dreams. These would be good days to plan a future trip.
We are uplifted Wednesday by a benefic Moon-Neptune sextile, an inspiring, peaceful energy that may be overturned by more feisty energy. The Moon’s powerful trine to Pluto later in the day gives a powerful thrust of energy for accomplishment. Venus moves into Taurus, where it rules, and functions well (See Ten Things to Do with Venus in Taurus below).
The Aries Sun makes a benefic sextile to Jupiter on Thursday, Jupiter’s day. This is an expansive, bold, bright energy. The Moon shines in gregarious Gemini, framing the day for conversations and excursions.
Friday morning rumbles with a dynamic Sun-Pluto square. This square contains enormous energy, though a Moon-Neptune square may diffuse the energy. On the other hand, an expansive Mars-Jupiter trine makes it easy to get a lot accomplished.
Saturday is an active day that invites conversation and connection. Mercury aspects Jupiter, Mars, and Pluto. The Moon is in Gemini in the morning, and ideas flow forth and fly. We may feel like we are going in many different directions at the same time. The Moon is void of course from 8:02 a.m. until 12:25 p.m. PDT, and then the Moon moves into its ruling sign of Cancer, where it is cozy and comfortable. Enjoy a delicious, celebratory evening meal with family.
Sunday morning the Moon and Uranus make a benefic sextile, an aspect that may deliver something surprising. The day calls for things new and different. Make a trip to the nursery and plant something different in your yard. Cook a new dish, and freshen your home. The Sun and Mercury conjoin, focusing us on matters of home and family.
Both Mercury and the Sun enter Taurus on Monday. Tension is eased with a Moon-Neptune trine, but a Moon-Pluto opposition amplifies emotions. The Moon forms its first quarter square with the Sun, signaling a time to get going on the month’s goals.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
