In the Stars March 22-29, 2020...shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon
We are now well into our first week of shelter-in-place in California. Much of the rest of the country is under the same mandate. Every day there are new orders and changes to limit physical contact to contain the virus. Our lives have dramatically changed over the past week. As spring has arrived, we have had to draw inward and take more of a winter posture; we are dying to an old way of living and emerging into a new springtime. Nature is available to us to step into spring. This week, in spite of the gloomy overcast skies of the Pluto/Saturn conjunction, Mars being out-of-bounds, and the nodes in problematic Nakshatras Ardra and Mula, according to Vedic astrology, the Sun is now in sunny, forward-moving Aries, and Venus and Jupiter make a benefic trine. Tuesday’s New Moon at 4:12 Aries is conjunct Chiron and Black Moon Lilith, symbolizing healing and equality.
I just attended the San Francisco Astrological Society’s excellent International Day Conference (March 21), converted to an online forum. Linea Van Horn was the keynote speaker, and gave the closing lecture “Dancing On the Edge of Chaos.” Her message was that it is a miracle that we are living in this amazing time of change, and that we can participate in the challenges and changes in many positive, proactive ways. I worked with a client earlier today who was resistant to changing her ways in response to what is happening. While response is always one’s choice, the energy of Pluto and Saturn is to end and destroy old worn-out ways of doing things. It is less painful, I think, to proactively respond to demands for change rather than to resist and be forced to change at a later breaking point.

Sunday is a cosmically energized day. Mercury makes a brilliant, inventive sextile with Uranus, giving great ideas. Venus and Neptune align in a creative dance, encouraging idealism and generativity. Mars and Pluto conjunct, creating a powerful, dynamic duo. The dynamism of these powerful, and soft, visionary aspects can be employed for productivity, innovation, and good works.
Start your work week with gentle movement such as yoga early Monday morning. The Moon is void of course all day starting at 7:51 a.m. PDT. Take time from work demands for a walk, an art project, or to watch a film. At 5:58 p.m. PDT the Moon bounces in to Aries, ready to get going on something new. However, the Moon is dark, so take some space for yourself and go inward.
Healing is a strong theme in Tuesday’s New Moon which is conjunct Chiron. The Moon also conjuncts Black Moon Lilith calling forth independence and creativity. These four planets form a tense square to the Moon’s nodes, a karmic alignment. This constrictive configuration symbolizes the challenge of the Coronavirus in which we are limited in movement, and are called in isolation to be creative both independently and socially.
The Sun shines fully in Aries on Wednesday and makes an edgy aspect to Jupiter and Pluto. We are deeply challenged in expansive ways. Lean in, and give this day your all.
We are reminded of responsibilities and limitations on Thursday as we plod through practical matters. Yet, we can expect routines to be broken and perhaps something surprising to emerge in the afternoon. Please the senses with a fine dinner in the evening. Light candles, play your favorite music, and make the evening special.
Indulge yourself in sensual pleasures on Friday. The Moon is in Taurus making benefic aspects to Mercury and Neptune, and it is Venus’ Day, Viernes, ruler of Taurus. The highlight aspect of the day is Venus trine Jupiter—the benefic planets of love and joy. Walk in nature, spruce up your home, and enjoy a delicious dinner and perhaps wine to celebrate the end of your work week in isolation.
Saturday is another awesome, pleasure-packed day. A Venus-Pluto trine amplifies love and passion, and infuses relationships with positive, amorous energy. Moon and Venus in Taurus are strong, as the Moon is exalted in Taurus, and Venus is the ruler of Taurus. These two strong planets, Venus and Moon, make benefic aspects to Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, and Pluto in grounded earth signs. This day can be extremely productive. Lean into this day, give it the works, and reap the benefits.
The Moon is in curious Gemini on Sunday. We usually feel an urge to go places and to be social. With the Coronavirus shelter-in-place order, we will need to channel that energy into explorations at home. Read a book. Explore YouTube and learn something new. Listen to a podcast. Call your sibling(s). The asteroid of health and hygiene, Hygeia, is conjunct the Moon, so health is highlighted.
The Moon is void of course all day Monday from 8:11 a.m. PDT. We may feel scattered due to the void Moon in Gemini and the Moon’s square to Neptune. This is not a day for focus. Allow yourself to flow with the meandering energies of the day. When the Moon is in Gemini we want to communicate, so reach out to family, friends, or colleagues with a phone call. Mars moves into Aquarius tropically, drawing us toward freedom and friendship through May 12th.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
